HandBrake

HandBrakeHave been reading about the program HandBrake for years now.  This is an open source video transcoder.  Basically it lets you convert some video format to another.  It can all so compress files sizes down.  This is what I wanted to try it.  Have been making a lot of videos as of late for the YouTube channel,  I’d Rather Watch Paint Dry.  The files sizes can get pretty big once the project is done.  So uploading them to YouTube can take a long time.

Decided to give this a try.  One project was just under one and a half gigs.   Put that file though the program.  It got the file down to one gig.  Which is not bad.  Sure it could get it lower but think the quality would drop too much.  Since the programs is open source it doesn’t cost any thing.

Format Factory

FormatFactoryOver the years I have tried all kinds of different file converters.  Some kind of worked.  While others were just junk.  Need to converter some videos files so my video editing software could read them.  So once again went looking.  I all ways go to Cnet Downloads.  Here I found one I never hear of or tried yet.  It is called FormatFactory.  After reading up on it decided I would give it a try.  First off it is free and supports all kinds of video/music and pictures format.  Because it is free it does have ad-supported features.  So if you do decided to try it be careful when installing it.  It comes with the that, “do you want Ask toolbar” junk.  That stuff is easy to get around.  Once installed the programs is nice looking and easy to us.  Another good thing is it is fast.  Had the two files I need converted in minutes.  Was very impressed with it.  Will be using this one from now on.

Squared5 Not sure why I have not heard of Steamclip by Squared 5 until now.  What it is, is a video converter.  Seen it talked about on a tv show.  Have not tired it yet.  From that the show said it is really good and powerful converter.  It supports all kinds of input formats.  From what I have read so far, you have to have QuickTime 7 free player installed.  Best of all Streamclip is free for Mac and PC.  Going to have to download this and try it.
