Sega Dreamcast Emulation

Posted in Just something to say with tags , , , , , , on November 19, 2022 by getbent57

RedreamWanted to get some Sega Dreamcast emulation on the go with my new mini PC, Minisforum UM580.  It has been many years since I have played my real one.  There are some game I want to re-play and other just to try out.  There are two main options for emulation.  Flycast and Redream.  After looking at them both.  Went with Redream because it is simple to setup and the compatibility is about 95%.   Was sure at first it would work with a PS4 controller.  Did a quick search, didn’t see anything.   When ahead and installed it.  It recognized right way.  The only down side to this emulator is to unlock more save slots and higher resolutions you need to pay for and upgrade.  I am fine with that.   However there is no option to use Pay Pal.  Other than that this emulator works awesome. Oh, it even downloads the art work for you.

In this weeks video for the YouTube Channel, I’d Rather Watch Paint Dry, have a game comparison for Lethal Enforcers. Have been trying out the Magnus RC build for the PlayStation Classic. This lets you play Arcade games as well as others. Gave an old favourite a try, Lethal Enforcers. Back in the day would rent the SEGA Genesis a lot. So got thinking why not compare the different versions. You can see the video > here or below.

Lethal Enforcers

Posted in Just something to say with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on May 16, 2020 by getbent57

Lethal_EnforcersMade a few posts talking about Lethal Enforcers 2: Gun Fighters on the SEGA Genesis.  We had lot of fun with this light gun game.  One day while looking at games to rent we seen Lethal Enforcers.  We rented it on the spot.  With part two we just used the Genesis controllers.  At the rental store the first game come with the a big blue light gun called The Justifier.  Remember being super excited to get home and use it.  We took turns playing though both games.

Flash forward to day.  Through emulation got to replay both of theses.  While the first game doesn’t hold up well. However think there is some fun to be had even if you are using a controller.  While looking up info on this game seen that there was a PlayStation version.  So gave that a go.  It is not a great port because there are some stupid long load times.  Then a few days back got to give the Arcade version of the game a try.  Again with a controller but this is the best one to play.  It runs better and there is a lot more detail.  An since it emulation I have unlimited quarters.  Think I will make a video on comparing the version of the games.  They only version I haven’t tired is the SEGA CD.

Terraonion MODE – Dreamcast & Saturn ODE

Terraonion_MODEFor a long time now have been thinking about getting a GDemu for the Sega Dreamcast.  This is a device that replaces the disc drive in the Dreamcast.  In it’s place you put the GDemu.  The device lets you run games off an SD card.  However just found out there is a much better option coming out soon-ish called Terraonion MODE (Multi Optical Disc Emulator).  It works the same way as the GDemu but with a lot better features.  Firstly it can be use in either the Saturn or Dreamcast.  It is all so simple as plug and play.  But the best part is you can attach a SSD or a laptop hard drive.  Can still you a Micro SD card if you want but hard drives can hold so much more.  Really thinking about getting on.  It is in pre-order at them moment (April 2020). With a estimated ship dates of June/July 2020.  You can check it out for yourself with the link above.

Test Drive V-Rally

Test_Drive_V-RallyGot to play an old favourite Dreamcast game the other night thought emulation.  It was Test Drive V-Rally.   Has been many years since last played this.  It was and still is a great rally game.  For such an old game now it holds up well.  The gameplay is still fun.  Thinking I just might have to dig out my Dreamcast and play some more.  The game was all so on the PlayStation and PC under the tile Need for Speed: V-Rally 2.  Not sure if I every played that version.  Just might have to check that one out.

Lethal Enforcers II: Gun Fighters

Posted in Just something to say with tags , , , , , , , , , , , on February 4, 2020 by getbent57

It was back in 2015 when I first blogged about Lethal Enforcers 2: Gun Fighters.  Played it at a friends house on a SEGA Genesis.  My brother and I had a copy when we were kids.  We would play thought it start to finish just about weekly.  Well a few nights go played it again this time though emulation on a PC in two player.  The game is very dated but still lots of fun.  While looking at the Wikipedia page (linked above) read that there was a PlayStation compilation of the two games.  Never knew that.  Going to see if I can get my hands on a copy just to see if its better or worst then the Genesis version.

GDemu For The Dreamcast

GDemuFor a few years how have been thinking about getting a GDemu for the Sega Dreamcast.  This is a device that replaces the disc drive in the Dreamcast.  You take apart, remove the drive and in it’s place you put the GDemu.  The device lets you run games off an SD card.  It’s is pretty cool.  The thing is they were very pricey.  However now there are some clones out there.  Some going for about $70.00.  You can find them on Amazon and Ebay.  Going to think on it for a bit.  If I do get one will be back with a post.

Sega Nomad

While clearing out some old paper work.  Came across student load stuff.  There was an envelope which I would keep receipts of things I bought with that money.  All this stuff in no longer good.   So was shredding it.  Then seen the receipt for the Sega Genesis Nomad.   Back in September 2012 made a post taking about the Nomad.  Saying I most likely paid to much for it.  Well the receipt is pretty faded but can clearly make out I paid $219.00.  That was before tax.  At the bottom it has the year, 1997.  Not sure it it was the smartest investment I have every made.  However it is twenty years ago and it still works.

Outlander Video Game

Posted in Just something to say with tags , , , , , , on June 27, 2017 by getbent57

Outlander_Video_GameBack in the day my brother loved to play the Sega Genesis version of the game Outlander.  When playing it we wouldn’t get every far.  It was a tough game.  All so we didn’t understand what was going on.  Well all these years later.  Thanks to emulation and save states.  Also years of gaming.  It still tough but makes senses.

If you never seen it before.  It looks like that Mad Max movie.  After looking up info on the game.  Found out was being developed as a Mad Max game. But they lost the license.  So they changed the name.  What makes this game standout.  Is there are two different game play styles.  First you are driving.  Avoiding things and shooting at the bad guys.  Then at points in the game you have to pull over.  Then the game switches to on foot.  Where you beat up/shoot the bad guys to get supplies.  However at any time you can pull over.  It is you just might not get enough supplies. It is any interesting game.  Just every repetitive.
