RPG Maker VX Ace

Near the end of last December (2014) had the the New Years goal of making a small game with RPG Maker VX Ace.  Well I have failed with that goal.  Have not touched the program in months.  It is not that big of of a deal.  Because I have spent my free time playing lots of great games.  With that being said.  Still plan to make one.   Many be by this time next year or sooner I will have one for people to try.  It is a very fun program to use.

There is a new version out now called RPG Maker MV.  This new version is pretty nice.  Have not tried since my computer will not run it.  It is bigger and better.  The biggest thing is it can run a lots of platforms.  The games you make can run on Windows, Mac, android, iOS and even HTML 5.  When even I upgrade to a new computer will look at getting a copy of this.

RPG Maker VX Ace

Got around to trying out RPG Maker VX Ace this past weekend.  Have played around with RPG Maker XP.  Which they are both kind of the same VX Ace is much more streamed lined.  My goal is still to make a game but first need to learn how to use this program.  Found a great tutorial > here.  You can read it right on the website.  There is a download button but you have to sign up at the Scribd.com site.  How ever the user has posted a link to were you can download a PDF and a copy of the game you will make using the tutorial.   Have gone though the first 30 pages or so.  It is very helpful.  All so found another useful site rpgmaker.net.  There are lot of tutorials there as well along with lots of other stuff.

RPG Maker VX Ace

Back in August had a post taking about how I was using the trail version of RPG Maker XP to make a game.  The time is up that trail.  Was debating weather or not to buy it.  They are about $25.00.  The newest and better version RPG Maker VX Ace is going for $70.00.  Have good news this past weekend over at the Humble Bundle Store they had VX Ace on sale for $17.49 US.  Could not let this deal pass me by.  It was on sale for $17.49 US, so I bought.  In the end it only cost me $20.27 Cn.  Which is a very good deal.   It was a very easy process.  Signed up for an account at Humble Bundle.  Paid for the program with Pay Pal. Which only took second to process.  The thing was they sent me a link to program to work with Steam.  So had to sign up for that as well, then link Steam to Humble Bundle.  Then use the Steam to download it. Now that I have it I will have unlimited time to make a game.

Game

Over the years have thought about, or started many projects which never got finished.  A few posts back talked about trying out the trial version of RPG Maker XP.  The trial gives you 30 days before it stops working or you buy it.  Have about 20 days left.  So decided to make a test game.  Found a few tutorials on YouTube that have helped me out a bit with setting up events in the game.  The game I am making its self will be pretty simple.  It’s kind of adventure game with some RPG elements.   My plan is to have a versions for people to test out.  Going to ask who every wants to try it out be like a game tester.  Since I know how and were everything is.  Need new eyes to find mistakes.  Weather it is a spelling mistakes or may be the you get stuck some where and can’t get back.  Will have a new page setup soon with all the details on how to try the game out.

RPG Maker XP

A few posts back talked about trying the free open source game maker, Open RPG Maker.  Didn’t have much luck with that.  So downloaded the trail version of RPG Maker XP.  The company has a bunch of game making software.  Their newest one is called RPG Maker VX Ace.  Which costs $70.  That is one of the reason I went with RPG Maker XP while it is not the newest it is a much better price, $25.  All so there seems to be more help and tutorials. Only have the trail version which lets you use it for 30 days.  Going to play around with this to see what I can come up with.  Just might end up buying it.  The site does support Pay Pal.

Open RPG Maker

Many, many years ago friends any myself got our hands on a program called RGP Maker 2000.  It was pretty fun to make your own little game.  Ever since than thought about trying to make another one.  Looked up the programs again and over at the RPG Makers website they have a bunch of different ones to buy.  Didn’t want to spend any money just in case I couldn’t get back into.  Did so did some searching and found an open source one called Open RPG Maker.  Going to give this a try.  If I can’t figure it out will look into “getting” a copy of RPG Maker XP.  This one looks like there would be a lot more help and tutorials.

[Update] Didn’t have any luck with Open RPG Marker.  Messed around with it.   Made a small map then tried to test run and it would fail.  So text window would pop.  Forget what it says.  So decided to give the trail version of RPG Maker XP.  Which you can try for yourself > here.
