After many weeks and lots of blog posts about this Robocop statue, > here at Printables.com. Have now finished painting it. Am very happy with how it turned out. This is by far the biggest model I have printed and painted. You can see a picture of it below. Took my time with the painting part. Only had to do a few small touch-ups where I missed or were the brush touched the wrong spots. Have started work on some other projects. Will talk about those in future posts.
Has been awhile since I have worked on the Robocop statue, > here at Printables.com. The post on this talked about how it is all glue together and primed. Now I have two coats of sliver paint on. Am happy with how that went. Now need to move on the the black paint parts of the model. Thinking that will take two or three coats. Still not sure how I am going to paint the face yet. Need to look into seeing if there is flesh colour acrylic or how to make your own. Am hoping to get this finished over my vacation.
Another update on the Robocop statue, > here at Printables.com. In my last post on this talked about how I got it all glued together and add the wood filler to some gaps. The next step is to prime it. When I was getting everything setup for that. Took the model out side and place it down. Then it’s left arm fell off at the elbow. For some reason the glue didn’t work. So had to re-do that. Then let it dry over night. So next day primed it. Must say that worked out great. Now to move onto painting.
Am getting closer to finishing the Robocop statue, > here at Printables.com I am working on. Have all the parts glue together now. All so used some wood filler to get some of the bigger gaps. That did work great. It’s just that stuff smells really bad. So once It was on the model. Put the parts out in the shed. Now I just need to prime then paint. The hardest part will be the face. Not sure how to paint flesh colour. Will have to look into it.
Am still working on the Robocop statue, > here at Printables.com. Have most of the parts glued together now. But before that finished need to fill some gaps. Have seen videos of people using wood filler to do this will PLA. Picked up a small tub. First off this has a very strong smell. So make use you have some windows open when using it. Did some of the bigger gaps. It was simple to use but at pain at the same. Going to let it dry over night. Will be back with an update if it turned ok, or not.
Yet one more update post about the Robocop statue, > here at Printables.com I am working on. Have more the parts glue together now. For the most part they were easy to do. Add some glue and the I would use rubber bands to hold them together until it dried. The tricky part is the legs. Was trying to figure out how to hold them in place. At first was going to do each leg separate. That didn’t work. So, glued them at the same time. Then managed to get a band in the right place to hold. After that put some paint bottles in front and back of the feet to stop it from moving. This seemed to work. As I am typing this, just finished doing that. Will check on it tomorrow. Fingers crossed it holds.
Forget how many posts I have made about the Robocop statue, > here at Printables.com, I am working one. All the parts printed. Have started to glue all the pieces together. Ended up breaking two of them for the right arm. There are six parts in that STL file that print at the same time. This is how Meshmixer comes in. The program lets you edit files. So imported the right arm and the deleted the stuff I don’t need. Then exported it back out as a fixed STL file. Loaded that up into the slicer and printed it. So much better than reprint all the parts over again.
Have another update on the 3D printed Robocop statue, > here at Printables.com I am working on. All the parts are printed now. The legs took the longest time. Just under eight hours each. Now I am working on cleaning up the parts. Used support rafts on the parts. Need to do some light sanding. After that will start gluing them together. When it’s prime and paint time. Once It is all glued together will take some pictures.
The 3D printed Robocop statue, > here over at Printables.com, I am working on is coming together nicely. All the parts printed so far have turned out really good. There are only two left to print, the legs. These will take just under eight hours each. Not sure if I will print them separate or together. Going to play around with the slicing program to see which might be better. After I get all the parts done. Going to do some test fitting. There might be some light sanding to do. Then will glue the pieces and the paint.
A few posts back talked about the 3D printable Robocop statue > here over at Printables.com. Well I have start to print the parts. First part was his head. This come in two sections, which you glue together. With some past prints was having some trouble with some lifting of the build plate. Looked into some was to fix that. So have have upped the temperature on the build plate. Slowed the print speed down and them add a raft to the parts. Hopefully this will help. Will be back with more update along the way.
[Update] Upping the temperature and adding the raft helped. So the slowing the seed down as improved the look of the parts.
