PS2 Emulation

How that I have my mini PC set up, Minisforum UM580.  Wanted to give some PlayStation 2 emulation another try with PCSX2 emulator.   This time with what they call Nightly Builds.  This is more like a beta or new version that has features not in the stable release.  Once installed it looks much better and it a lot easier to uses.  It all so configured my PS4 controller.  Only tired one game so far.  It can great.  Now I just need to start ripping some of my other PS2 favourites to try.

PS2 Emulation

It has been awhile since I have tired out some PlayStation 2 emulation, over a year ago PCSX2 emulator.  Used it a few times but got away from it.  Well a few days ago watched the ETA Prime video, > here.  It shows off an update version of this emulator.  They over hauled the the look and a lot of features.  The only thing is, as of typing this (May 24, 2022) it’s not a stable release yet.  It is what they call Nightly Builds.  Theses are builds that are still in development.  Thinking I am going to try play some more of my old PS2 games again.

Dark Cloud Jumping Back In

It was back in 2016 that I bought a copy of Dark Cloud for the PS4.  Played it for a bit but moved on to other games.  Back in the PS2 days played the game so much broke the in game clock.  This past November (2021), played a little bit and stopped again.  Well near the end of December jump back into the game big time.  Don’t mind the grind in this one.  May be play for half hour or so and level up a weapon a few times.  Then move onto fixing up the village.  Can’t remember if I beat the game on the PS2.  Just know that I maxed out one swords stats.  May be I will try and finish it on the PS4.

Dark Cloud On PS4

Have been playing a bit more of Dark Cloud on the PlayStation 4 as of late.  It was back in 2016 got it on sale in the PlayStation Store.  This is one of my favourite PS2 games.  Back in the PS2 days played it so much broke the in game clock.  Mostly what I have been doing now is upgrading my main weapon.  Like most RPG’s you need to do a lot of grinding.  Don’t really mind that too much in this game.  Just may be a half hour at a time.  So when it comes time to move on to the more higher levels will have a easy time getting though.

Soldier Of Fortune Game

Back in the year 2000 a friend showed me a demo for the PC game Soldier of Fortune.  This is a awesome FPS.  The big hook with this one was, the bad guy, could be dismembered.  At the time was pretty crazy that a could could do.  After seeing the demo.  Went and got a copy for my Windows 98SE computer.  Kind of forgot all about this game until the other night.  A friend was running some PS2 emulation on this PC.  Had know idea that this game was on the PS2.  If I had back in the day would have bought it.

With emulation it cam be upscaled on the PC.  I must say the game looked great.  But the biggest surprise was it played just like the PC version from what I can remember.  It even had a bunch of settings you can adjust.  Was super impressed with it.  Know I kind of want to play this game again.  Sill have my original disc.  However you can buy it on GoG.com for about $9.00.

PCSX2 Using Cheat Codes

Made a post last week talking about messing around with the PCSX2 emulator.  This lets you play PS2 games on your computer.  Got thinking there must be a way to use cheat codes, like from GameShark and the like.  Turns out you can but it takes a bit off time to set up.  Looked up some how-tos on YouTube.  There are a few but the people were making way to hard to follow along.   Making it very unclear how to go about it.  Well, after a few tries I got it working.  So thinking I will make my how-to for the YouTube channel,  I’d Rather Watch Paint Dry.

PS2 Emulation

It was back in 2019 I first gave PlayStation 2 emulation a try with soft modding my PS2.  While it works (with some games) it’s a bit of a pain adding games to the hard drive.  Well gave emulation another try, but this time on my computer.  Use PCSX2 emulator.  Have know about this program for many years but never gave it a try.  It all ways seem to complicated to setup.  Looked at some how to videos and that made it much easier.  So gave it a try a few nights ago.  Got it working pretty quickly.  Once cool feature is, it can upscale games.  The few I tired looked great running at 1080.  Now going to look thought my old stack of games a pick one to play though.

Softmoding A PlayStation 2 Again

It was back in March 2019 I first stared softmoding my PlayStation 2.  I did get it work but it was a bit of a pain to use.  Some of the games you need to figure out what Mode to use in one of the setting.  Did look online for help.  However there was know real answer.  So I ended up putting that project aide.  Well until a few days ago.  I friend has softmodded his was well.  With a bit of a difference.  There is an update to two of the things you need.  They seems to make it work better.  So I will be giving that a try.

Third Party PlayStation 2 Controller – Quick Review

In this weeks video for the YouTube Channel, I’d Rather Watch Paint Dry.  Have a quick review for a third party PlayStation 2 controller. Been working on soft modding my PS2 however have a problem with the original controller. Looked around for new old stock original with no luck. PlayStation 2 HDMI Cable

If you follow this blog you might know that I have soft modded my PlayStation 2.  Have a set of component cables I bought last year for my PS3.  They all so work on the PS2.  This makes it a bit easier to capture gameplay footage.  An even better way would be HDMI.  The thing is PlayStation 2 are old and HD TVs were not a thing when they came out.  However as seen some people on YouTube talk about how to get HDMI to work the a PS2.  There are a few options out there.  One that may have talked about is from Pound Technology.  They makes the cables to work with older consoles to work with HDTV’s.  They have one for the PS2, Original XBox and Dreamcast.  They call them HD Link.  Thinking about getting the PlayStation 2 one > here.  It pretty much plug and play.  They are asking $30.00 US money.  Not sure how much that will be in Canadian money or even if they ship to Canada.  Will have to look into it more.
