In this weeks video for the YouTube Channel, I’d Rather Watch Paint Dry, try out some photogrammetry. My goal is to see if I could turn my motorcycle into a 3D model. In which I could print on my Elegoo Mars 3D printer. Had some success and going to keep at it. Keep and eye on for more videos on this subject. You can see how it turned out > here or below.

3dflow_3dfzephyrHas been awhile since last talked about photogrammetry and 3D printing.  Now that the weather has gotten better going to start 3D printing again.  Have all so tried out different photogrammetry program called 3DF Zephyr.   They have a free version to try.  Which I did but there are some limits.  It only lets you use 50 pictures.  The best part of the program is you can import video.  Gave this at try with tutorial and was very impressed with the results.  Got thinking I would like to give the one of the paid versions a try.  Then sticker shocked happed.  For the next level up, it lets you use 500 pictures.  With an asking price of about $240.00 Canadian.  This is a lot of money.  Would be worth it if I was to use the program all the time.  The level up after that is just shy of $4000.00 Canadian.   There is a 14 day trail for the payed version.  Just might give that a go.

Photogrammetry Yet Again

Have made a few posts about photogrammetry.  My first two attempts failed.  However in the last post talked about how I seen a tutorial on how to use video instead of pictures.  Give it another go with No Man’s Sky again.  This time use my game capture device.  The loaded that into VLC and exported screenshots.  The next step to edit the pictures.  Had a 140 or so to edit.  Which took a long time but was well worth it.  Because when I load them in the photogrammetry program and did what I to do, (side not one step over two hours to render), it worked out great.  As you can see in the picture below.  This is were I stopped at.  There are a bunch more I have to do.  Think it will turn out great.  Either way will be back with another post.

Photogrammetry Again

A few posts back talked about photogrammetry.  One of my goals with that was to printer a model of a ship from No Man’s Sky.  While it didn’t work.  Looked into more.   Seen some videos of people using video instead of pictures to make a 3D model.  In one of these videos used different programs.  There are more steps involved.   But are all easy to do.  Going give it a try.  Will be back with an update if it works out.  Do hope its does because there is so much you could do with.  Turing you favourite video game characters or thing into a 3D model would be cool.

PhotogrammetryHave printed off a few things with my Elegoo Mars 3D printer.  There are all kinds of cool files you can download.  That’s all fine.  But wanted to make my own.  Have played around with Tinkercad.  Then got thinking there has to be way to scan real world objects to turn them in to a 3D file.  Looked into that.  There are all kinds of scanners you can buy but they cost way to much.  Then found out about photogrammetry.  Basically it is a software that you load pictures into that turns them into to a 3D.  The trick is you need to take lots of pictures at many different angles.  When the weather gets nice going to try this my motorcycle.  In the mean time got things why not try this with a video game.  Have been playing No Man’s Sky a lot.  The ship I have is pretty cool.  The game goes have a photo mode.  Got thinking this would be awesome to print off.  My next day off going to give it a try.  There is some free software out there with I will try first.  It is called Meshroom.

[Update]  Tried this out with No Man’s Sky and it didn’t work.  The software doesn’t work this just regular .jpg’s.  It needs to have the metadata from the camera as well.
