Canon_EF-75-300mm-f4-5-6-III_Side_V2_580x580Have had my Cannon EOS Rebel T5i for two years now.  It works great have took many pictures with and as well as all the videos for the YouTube channel, I’d Rather Watch Paint Dry.  Over the past two years have been adding things to help with take better videos.  This time around want a new lens.  Like taking pictures of birds.  The lens I have does have a nice zoom on it.  But wanted some with more.  Took a look at entry level lens what would work best for my budget and skill range.  Seen one that fit my bill, Canon 75-300 mm zoom lens.  Even better Best Buy had it on sale.  So jumped at it.  Will be back with another post once I got come practices with it.

Neewer NW759 Camera Field Monitor Kit Hands On

Posted in I’d Rather Watch Paint Dry with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on July 15, 2019 by getbent57

Have had the Neewer NW759 field monitor kit for about a week but haven’t had the time to try it out.  Took a look at all the parts in the box when it showed up at the door.  On my day off finely got to try it.  The first thing I did was charge up the battery.  The kit came with a small USB charger.  Which as a nice LCD screen on it showing the battery charge level.  The case it comes with it is very nice as well.  It will keep the monitor save.  But don’t think it will hold all the other stuff you need to use it.  Sure some of it will fit fine.  Not a big deal since I wouldn’t be doing much traveling with it.

Very easy to setup.  Just have to set the camera to use HDMI out put and the screen takes over.  It didn’t fill the screen all the way at first.  Made some adjustments on the monitor and within the camera it’s self.  Then it did.  All my video projects going forward I will be using this monitor.  Will be back with another update in a few months time to see how I like using it.  You can see that kit I bought  > here. [Update, sold out at the typing of this post, July 15, 2019]

Neewer NW759 Camera Field Monitor Kit

Posted in Just something to say with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on July 8, 2019 by getbent57

It only took a few days for the Neewer NW759 field monitor kit to come in the mail.  Should say FedEx, maybe that’s way it got here so fast.  Haven’t tried it out let.  But did take a look at what it all comes with, the monitor, the cables, hot shoe mount, battery and charger as well as a nice case.  The reason I bought this was to help out my video making.  The screen on my camera is a bit small.  When I try to focus on something it looks fine on the screen.  But when it I put the video on my computer to edit I wasn’t really in good focus.  The monitor has a focus assist button.  It highlights in red what part of the object is most in focus.  Will be back with another update when I try it out.  Oh you can see that kit I bought  > here.

Neewer NW759 Camera Field Monitor Kit

Back in May (2019) made a post talking about camera monitors or field monitors.  These a little monitors that can sit on top of your DSLR to makes it easier to see what you are taking pictures or video of.  In that post talked about the Neewer NW759.  Looked into at the time and it seemed like the best choose of me.  It is designed for beginners and the price was right.  Have a birthday coming up.  So I ordered one.  Bought a kit version it comes with the monitor (of course), the cables, hot shoe mount, battery and charger as well as a nice case to store it in.  You can see what it looks like > here.  Should have in my hands some time this week.  This will help me out a lot when making videos for the YouTube channel I’d Rather Watch Paint Dry.

DSLR On Camera Monitor

Posted in Just something to say with tags , , , , , , , , , , , on May 8, 2019 by getbent57

Neewer_NW759Have been making videos for the YouTube channel I’d Rather Watch Paint Dry for months now.  I use the Canon EOS Rebel T5i.  Am very happy with the camera and it works awesome. The problem I have is the screen on the back.  It is nice and clear.  However when I try to focus it seems prefect in the camera.  But when I put the video on to my computer it not so great.   So got thinking about getting an external monitor.  Some call them on camera monitors or field monitors.  Started looking into them and was shocked my the prices.  Got thinking there has to be budget/beginner ones.  Looked into that and there.  Came across one that looks like it will fit my needs.  It is the Neewer NW759.  It can sit on top of the camera and the screen is seven inches.  It has a very cool feature I need.  It is focus assist.  You push a button and the screen turns grey and red.  The redder the line that is what is more in focus.  The only draw back it doesn’t come with batteries (depending on what version you buy) .  But they are easy to get off Amazon.  The best thing is the prices.  Starting a $150 to $190.00 from Amazon.ca.  You can see the options > here.  Might get the one with a case and battery back.  Have birthday coming up.  This might be my gift to myself.

Neewer Carbon Fiber Handheld Stabilizer Test

Had some time off so got around to try out the Neewer Handheld Stabilizer.  This is the second one of bought off Amazon.ca (The one I got > here).  The first one was missing a piece.  Watched a bunch of videos on YouTube on had to balance these type of things.  There are many makes and modes but they all pretty much work the same.  Spent about an hour dialing it in.  Don’t get it just right but not bad.  With time it will get easier and faster.  Will so take lots of practice to use just right.  Made a quick video on trying out for the first time.  You can see that > here or below.  Like every thing,  practice, practice and more practice.

The second Neewer Handheld Stabilizer I ordered show up at my door a few days back.   I opened it right way to see if all the parts were there.  This time around everything was packed and wrapped nicely.  All the parts are there.  On my day off plan to set it up.  Have a few videos from YouTube booked marked on how to balance this type of stabilizers.  From what I have watched it can take a long time to dial it in just right.  Like with anything it will take practice to use.  Do have one project in mind I want if for.

Neewer Stabilizer Another Update

Posted in Just something to say with tags , , , , , , , , , , on August 19, 2018 by getbent57

Back in June (2018) ordered a Neewer Handheld Stabilizer off of Amazon.ca.  It was a birthday gift to myself.  When I opened it found out there was a piece missing.  Which was a very important one.  It was the part that attaches to the camera.  Which in turns attaches to the stabilizer.  So had to sent it back.  That was easy to do.  Just took awhile to the money to get credited back on to my credit card.

Got the money back now.  So ordered another one.  Should be here some time next week.  Will open it right way to make sure it is all there.  Have some vacation time coming up.  Plan to try it out then.

Neewer Stabilizer Update

Posted in Just something to say with tags , , , , , , , , , on July 7, 2018 by getbent57

Have made a few post about the Neewer Handheld Stabilizer. Ordered off of Amazon.ca.  It was one with a carbon fiber main shaft.  In my last post talked about about how on my day off will give it a try.  Well I did try and use it.  When I took it out off the box and gave it a look over.  Turns out it was missing a piece.  The shoe plate was not there.  This is the part the attaches to your camera.

Never had any problems buying off of Amazon.ca.  When back on to the site to see how you return an item.  Must say it is pretty easy.  You go back to the list of stuff you ordered.  There is a button to press called return.  Then they ask you from a drop down menu why you are returning it.  Once that done they give you options on ways to ship it back.  You choose one.  Then the give you instructions on how to pack the box up along with the shipping labels they send you.  Once they get the package back they will refund the money back on to my credit card with in seven days.  Plan to buy another one once this one is back in there hands.

Neewer Stabilizer

The Neewer Handheld Stabilizer I ordered showed up at my door this past Friday (June 29, 2018).  In the box you get the stabilizer with the weights attached, a carrying bag and instruction manual.  The one I bought has a carbon fiber main shaft.  Have let to try it out.  Plan to on my next day off.  Have watched a bunch of videos on YouTube on how to balance it.  Am sure it will take lot of practices to the the results I am looking for.  They even say something about in the manual, “Warmly Reminder.  The use of stabilizer is a technical activity.  It needs some times to practice and master. So pls don’t be discouraged when just find your shooting effect is not very good.  In order to achieve the desired shooting, you need to go through a variety of physical coordination to adjust the balance.”  Not sure who wrote that but it sounds like thing you would read off bad website. Will be make with another post when I get to try it out.
