Canon_EF-75-300mm-f4-5-6-III_Side_V2_580x580Have had my Cannon EOS Rebel T5i for two years now.  It works great have took many pictures with and as well as all the videos for the YouTube channel, I’d Rather Watch Paint Dry.  Over the past two years have been adding things to help with take better videos.  This time around want a new lens.  Like taking pictures of birds.  The lens I have does have a nice zoom on it.  But wanted some with more.  Took a look at entry level lens what would work best for my budget and skill range.  Seen one that fit my bill, Canon 75-300 mm zoom lens.  Even better Best Buy had it on sale.  So jumped at it.  Will be back with another post once I got come practices with it.

Neewer NW759 Camera Field Monitor Kit Hands On

Have had the Neewer NW759 field monitor kit for about a week but haven’t had the time to try it out.  Took a look at all the parts in the box when it showed up at the door.  On my day off finely got to try it.  The first thing I did was charge up the battery.  The kit came with a small USB charger.  Which as a nice LCD screen on it showing the battery charge level.  The case it comes with it is very nice as well.  It will keep the monitor save.  But don’t think it will hold all the other stuff you need to use it.  Sure some of it will fit fine.  Not a big deal since I wouldn’t be doing much traveling with it.

Very easy to setup.  Just have to set the camera to use HDMI out put and the screen takes over.  It didn’t fill the screen all the way at first.  Made some adjustments on the monitor and within the camera it’s self.  Then it did.  All my video projects going forward I will be using this monitor.  Will be back with another update in a few months time to see how I like using it.  You can see that kit I bought  > here. [Update, sold out at the typing of this post, July 15, 2019]

Neewer NW759 Camera Field Monitor Kit

Posted in Just something to say with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on July 8, 2019 by getbent57

It only took a few days for the Neewer NW759 field monitor kit to come in the mail.  Should say FedEx, maybe that’s way it got here so fast.  Haven’t tried it out let.  But did take a look at what it all comes with, the monitor, the cables, hot shoe mount, battery and charger as well as a nice case.  The reason I bought this was to help out my video making.  The screen on my camera is a bit small.  When I try to focus on something it looks fine on the screen.  But when it I put the video on my computer to edit I wasn’t really in good focus.  The monitor has a focus assist button.  It highlights in red what part of the object is most in focus.  Will be back with another update when I try it out.  Oh you can see that kit I bought  > here.

Neewer NW759 Camera Field Monitor Kit

Back in May (2019) made a post talking about camera monitors or field monitors.  These a little monitors that can sit on top of your DSLR to makes it easier to see what you are taking pictures or video of.  In that post talked about the Neewer NW759.  Looked into at the time and it seemed like the best choose of me.  It is designed for beginners and the price was right.  Have a birthday coming up.  So I ordered one.  Bought a kit version it comes with the monitor (of course), the cables, hot shoe mount, battery and charger as well as a nice case to store it in.  You can see what it looks like > here.  Should have in my hands some time this week.  This will help me out a lot when making videos for the YouTube channel I’d Rather Watch Paint Dry.

DSLR On Camera Monitor

Posted in Just something to say with tags , , , , , , , , , , , on May 8, 2019 by getbent57

Neewer_NW759Have been making videos for the YouTube channel I’d Rather Watch Paint Dry for months now.  I use the Canon EOS Rebel T5i.  Am very happy with the camera and it works awesome. The problem I have is the screen on the back.  It is nice and clear.  However when I try to focus it seems prefect in the camera.  But when I put the video on to my computer it not so great.   So got thinking about getting an external monitor.  Some call them on camera monitors or field monitors.  Started looking into them and was shocked my the prices.  Got thinking there has to be budget/beginner ones.  Looked into that and there.  Came across one that looks like it will fit my needs.  It is the Neewer NW759.  It can sit on top of the camera and the screen is seven inches.  It has a very cool feature I need.  It is focus assist.  You push a button and the screen turns grey and red.  The redder the line that is what is more in focus.  The only draw back it doesn’t come with batteries (depending on what version you buy) .  But they are easy to get off Amazon.  The best thing is the prices.  Starting a $150 to $190.00 from Amazon.ca.  You can see the options > here.  Might get the one with a case and battery back.  Have birthday coming up.  This might be my gift to myself.

DSLR Camera Bag

Adventura_SH_160_IINear the end of May (2017) bought myself a DSLR camera,  a Cannon EOS Rebel T5i.  Ever since than knew I should get a bag for it because I would like to take it places.  So that is what I did the other day.  Was looking around at buying a Cannon branded bag.  The ones I found were way too much money.  Then took a look at the Lowerpro brand.  The local Best Buy carries them.  They have a few different ones.  Went with the biggest one, Adventura SH 160 II.  While it still seem like it cost a lot.  Think it is worth it to keep the camera safe.

Audacity

A few post back talked about audio hiss problem I was having with my Cannon EOS Rebel T5i.  After looking up help on the found a great tutorial > here.  The tutorial uses the program Audacity.   Well I gave this a try.  Recorded a small video, something like he did.  Followed the steps.  Must say it worked great.  The hiss sound was gone.

The small problem I ran into was trying to import my video file into Audacity.  There is an easy fix for that as well.  You just need to install two plugins, LAME and FFmpeg libraries.  This is pretty easy as well.  In the program you navigate to Preferences then Libraries.  There are buttons to download LAME or FFmpeg.  They both take you to the same page.  Download the both files and install.  Once they were installed imported the video clip.  The audio is there.  So did what the guy said in the tutorial.  Exported the audio as a wav file.  Imported that file into my editing program.  Then replaced the original audio with the fixed one.  Was very happy with the results.

Removing Audio Hiss

Posted in Just something to say with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on May 31, 2017 by getbent57

AudacityHad some time to play around with my new Cannon EOS Rebel T5i.  Have an external microphone attached, RODE VideoMicro.  Am still learning all the features and what not.  While playing back some videos.  There is this very annoying hissing sound.  I knew I would have to adjust the audio level manually.  Which is pretty easy to do.  Just have to learn what is the best setting for that.  The biggest thing I learned was about removing the hiss with the program Audacity.  This program has been around for a long time.  Used it a few times back on my first computer.  Found a great tutorial on YouTube.  You can see that > here.   Plan to run some more test to get the video and audio just right.

Canon EOS Rebel T5i

Posted in Just something to say with tags , , , , , , , , , , on May 29, 2017 by getbent57

Over a week ago made a post talking about the Cannon EOS Rebel T5i.  In that post talked about how my brother and I are working on making a YouTube channel.  Which I would be using the camera I all ready had, Canon FS 10.  While the camera works great. Didn’t some test with the RODE VideoMicro.  It didn’t work out so great.  Back in that post said the camera I would like to buy is the Rebel T5i.  Well Best Buy had it on sale.  It was a package deal.  It came with the camera, a 18-55mm Lens,  a UV protection lens filter and tripod.  So went out a bought it.  Couldn’t past the deal up.  Had some gift cards.  Which helped lowered the price.  Now I have to figure out all it can do and practice.

Canon EOS Rebel T5i

Canon_EOS_Rebel_T5iHave mentioned in a few posts.  My brother and I are working a putting a YouTube channel together.  Will be using the video equipment I all ready own.  If we can make a good go of it.  Will  be looking into getting a better camera.  Have looked some of of the options.  Like HD video cameras.  The every day use ones and the prosumer ones.  The every day ones were ok. Just didn’t have what I was really looking for. Then the prosumer ones are way too much money.  So looked into DSLR’s and  the Canon Rebel line.  Know a few YouTube channels use these.   The cameras take very nice video as well as high end pictures.

All all the research.  The one I would like to get is the Cannon EOS Rebel T5i.  It has all the features I want.  Takes awesome looking HD video.  With many video options. It all so has a microphone input as well a shoe mount of the top.  It cost of bit of money but not too bad for what you get.  Just will wait for it to go on sale.
